Are You Eating Enough Protein?

I’d wager a good amount of money and say that you’re probably not eating enough protein.

I know when I started my fitness history, I had absolutely zero idea how much protein I was consuming per day and to be honest with you, I had no earthly idea how much I should be consuming each day.

The recommended guidance from the USDA is, if you are a sedentary individual, you should be consuming .35g/lb of your body weight per day. (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11936105/) If you are moderately active .5-.7g/lb of your body weight per day.

I think anywhere between 0.5 to 0.7/lb

your body weight per day is a fabulous place to start.

Your protein goals won’t be the same as mine and to truly dial in your intake, it will take time and most likely a tailored approach but you have to start somewhere.

When I work with clients, we dial in your recommended protein intake based on your total output.

The more you strength training and exert your body through cardio specific movements, the more your body will need that protein to keep your muscles fueled.

You don’t need to be obsessed with your protein amount to the point where you are calculating the amount amount of grams on each plate. However, if you’ve never figured out the basics with your portion sizes, then I suggest you start tracking your breakfast, lunch and dinner. You’ll be surprised by how protein deficient you may be.

Here’s a starting point: pick your protein start, determine a reasonable daily amount (grams) then build your plate around that.

Your protein should be your anchor of every meal. It will help you keep or put on more muscle and it will help keep you fuller for longer.

Remember…

Hardest Part: Start™️
