Hardest Part: Start
Starting is hard. A new job. A new week. A new diet. A new version of yourself. For years, I tried to “start” over and over again. Extreme diets. Point systems. 30-day challenges. Pantry cleanouts. Every attempt began with intensity and hope. Most ended the same way — small cracks turning into full breaks. The problem wasn’t effort. The problem was approach. I believed success meant hitting a specific number on the scale. I believed it needed a deadline. I believed intensity was the key. It wasn’t. When I began my health journey in April 2023, I did have a goal weight. But after losing about 30 pounds, progress slowed. In the past, that’s where I quit. This time, I changed something. I stopped chasing a number. I started building routines. Repeating meals I enjoyed. Strength training consistently, rotating workouts to stay engaged. Choosing the “hard” option more often than the easy one and something happened. The hard path became normal. The discipline became automatic. The lifestyle stuck. The key to long-term health isn’t intensity. It’s consistent behavior. Show up daily, make the better choice. Repeat. The physical results follow.
This week, take action. Don’t overhaul your life. Just start. Pick one behavior to repeat this week: Meal prep for a two days of healthy and nutritious food. Walk 8,000 steps for a few days. Go to the gym and lift a few times. Replace a fast food meal with a healthier option. Start small. Stay consistent.
I’m launching this newsletter to share lessons from my 90+ pound transformation, my coaching experience, and ongoing study in health and performance. If you're ready for structure instead of shortcuts, JR Fit is currently accepting applications. If you find features or articles that you find interesting or want me to explore, send them my way!
