Healthy Eating Doesn’t Have To Be So Hard

Healthy eating can feel complicated before you even take the first bite.

What should I eat?

How much should I eat?

Do I need to meal prep? Food prep?

Do I need a different meal every day? Can my taste buds handle the same meal multiple days?

Do I need to track everything?

Sometimes, we spend so much time trying to figure out the “right” way to eat that we make eating healthy way harder than it needs to be. I found during this phase my mind would push back and say “this is too hard to sustain” or “but this isn’t going to keep my taste buds satisfied.” The mind is resilient to change.

Over time, I’ve learned that the meals that help me stay consistent usually aren’t the most exciting—they’re the ones I can repeat. You’ll find during your health journey that after having a few different types of meals, you’ll start realizing what can be sustainable and what meals though may be healthy aren’t going to be realistically sustainable for you.

Awhile back, my wife and I decided to simplify one part of our week: lunch.

Instead of making something different every day, we’d choose one lunch and eat it for the entire week. If we really liked it, we’d add it to a running list of lunches we could come back to later.

Over time, that list has grown into dozens of lunch bowls, salads, and other simple meals that we know we enjoy.

Now we don’t spend time wondering, “What should we make for lunch this week?” We just pick something from our list and move on.

It may sound simple, but removing that decision has made eating healthy so much easier.

There’s another benefit too...

If you’re tracking your calories or macros, repeating the same lunch means you only have to calculate it once. Instead of entering and figuring out a different meal every day, you already know exactly what you’re eating. It saves time, removes guesswork and makes staying consistent a whole lot easier.

The same idea applies even if you aren’t tracking anything.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean finding a brand new recipe every night or spending hours in the kitchen. It can be as simple as finding meals you genuinely enjoy and repeating them.

Simple doesn’t mean boring.

Simple means sustainable.

I still enjoy going out to eat. I still enjoy trying new foods. But the foundation of my nutrition isn’t built on constantly finding something new, it’s built on routines that make healthy choices easier.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is make one good decision… and repeat it.

This Week’s Challenge

Pick three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners that you genuinely enjoy and are easy to prepare.

Write them down somewhere you’ll keep them.

The next time you’re trying to decide what to eat, don’t start from scratch. Start with your list.

Over time, you’ll build your own collection of go-to meals that make healthy eating feel less stressful and much more sustainable.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated.

It just has to be consistent.

Hardest Part: Start™️
